Welcome to Southampton & Eastleigh Friends of the Earth
FoE at Sholing Valleys

This Saturday we'll be at the official opening of the Miller’s Pond Nature Reserve in Sholing as part of their Spring Fayre. From 12pm there will be plants, secret world wildlife talks, birds of prey, great games, bbq, refreshments and much more. The event will be a chance to learn about the Nature Reserve, visit countryside in the city, enjoy all the fun of the fayre and have some fun! Southampton and Eastleigh FoE will be back dressed as bees giving out FREE wildflower seeds, leaflets, and helpful advice on how you can help the bees. See you there!

Saturday 19th May, 12pm @ Station Road, Sholing, Southampton, SO19 8FP

FoE at Environmental Rock

It was a FANTASTIC day at Environmental Rock on Saturday 12th May! The sun was out and Southampton and Eastleigh Friends of the Earth were buzzing around The Hobbit (some dressed as bees!) telling people the importance of our bees, giving away all seeds, offering honey tasting and we managed to get lots and lots of signed petitions! We also have started to fill our map with lots of bee-friendly action going on around the area!

Bee Walks in July

We've been in contact with local bee and nature expert, Phil Budd, who is happy to lead some bee walks for our group in July! The walks will involve walking around some local areas identifying the bees that we find. They will be great fun and we may even dress up as bees! Stay tuned for more information. Over 70 signatures gained as Final Demand stunt is performed in Eastleigh

Eastleigh residents sent a clear message to Chris Huhne today by signing up to the Friends of the Earth campaign to rein in the big energy companies.

Over 70 signatures were added to a petition calling for a public enquiry into high energy bills as spoof representives of the Big Six companies, thanking hard-pressed consumers for their soaring profits.

Campaigner Steve Burgess said:

"We were overwhelmed by the response to our campaign and it's clear that there's a strong demand for tough action. Eastleigh residents have sent a message to Chris Huhne that he can't ignore. He needs to address the power of the Big Six energy companies and make them invest in clean power and cutting energy waste."

Friends of the Earth recently unveiled a report showing that households in the UK could face extra costs of around £300 per year as the bill for using fossil fuels to generate electricity spirals even higher. With nearly 10% of households in Eastleigh already in fuel poverty, local MP Chris Huhne must address thir urgently in his role as Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change.
